Anduril Industries and Blue Force Technologies Join Forces to Advance Autonomous Air Dominance

Published:

  • Anduril Industries has announced its acquisition of Blue Force Technologies, a developer of autonomous aircraft and aerostructures.
  • The acquisition aims to expand Anduril’s autonomous capabilities, particularly in the group 5 autonomous aircraft space, and to accelerate the development of technologies critical to future defense capabilities.

COSTA MESA, Calif., September 7, 2023 — In a move set to significantly expand its autonomous capabilities, defense technology company Anduril Industries has acquired Blue Force Technologies, a North Carolina-based developer of autonomous aircraft and aerostructures. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A Strategic Move for Autonomous Capabilities

The acquisition will enable Anduril Industries to extend its existing autonomous fleet to include large high-performance, group 5 aircraft. This move is expected to substantially increase Anduril’s impact within the Department of Defense (DoD).

Blue Force Technologies: A Brief Overview

Blue Force Technologies has been developing Fury, a group 5 autonomous air vehicle with fighter-like performance, since 2019. The company recently completed successful flight tests of the flight software on board a VISTA (Variable Stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft) and a ground test for Fury’s novel carbon fiber composite propulsion flowpath system.

Investments and Future Plans

Anduril Industries plans to make significant investments in the continued development of the Fury autonomous air vehicle and to expand manufacturing operations in North Carolina. The company aims to accelerate the development of technologies critical to future capabilities, such as autonomous collaborative platforms.

The Importance of Autonomous Systems in Modern Warfare

The acquisition comes at a time when the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marine Corps are signaling their intention to modernize and adopt advanced autonomous capabilities. Anduril’s acquisition follows its successful launch of Lattice for Mission Autonomy earlier this year, an AI-enabled software platform that allows teams of autonomous systems to dynamically collaborate under human supervision.

A Proven Leader in Autonomous Solutions

Anduril Industries has a track record of developing and deploying integrated autonomous solutions across various sensors, effectors, and assets. The company aims to support the Department of Defense and allied military services in fielding autonomous and artificially intelligent systems as swiftly as possible.
