Wyvern and Loft Orbital Join Forces to Advance Hyperspectral Data Collection from Space

Published:

  • Wyvern collaborates with Loft Orbital to enhance the Dragonette satellite constellation, aiming to provide the highest resolution hyperspectral imagery commercially available from low Earth orbit.
  • The partnership leverages Loft Orbital’s second-generation satellite platform and SatDevOps culture to enable seamless, scalable, and high-volume data downlink capabilities.

Wyvern and Loft Orbital Forge a New Path in Hyperspectral Data Collection

Golden, Colorado, September 5, 2023 – In a significant move that promises to redefine the capabilities of hyperspectral data collection from space, Wyvern announced a strategic partnership with Loft Orbital, a leading space infrastructure company. The collaboration aims to expand Wyvern’s Dragonette satellite constellation, offering unprecedented access to high-quality hyperspectral data.

A Seamless Partnership for Unparalleled Data

“Like Wyvern, Loft is unlocking the power of space for data collection with a deep understanding of how to develop, manage, launch, and operate the satellites that make up their infrastructure,” said a spokesperson from Wyvern. This partnership will enable Wyvern to offer “the highest resolution hyperspectral imagery commercially available from low Earth orbit.”

Next-Gen Technology for Enhanced Missions

Wyvern’s mission will fly on Loft’s second-generation satellite platform, which includes the Longbow bus and the Hub, a modular payload interface. The mission will be operated using Cockpit, Loft’s mission operations software. “With the ability to support 20-100x the downlink volume as a traditional cubesat, the expanded imaging capacity of Loft’s platform enables Wyvern to serve the growing demand for high-quality data,” the companies announced.

SatDevOps: The Culture Behind the Tech

Loft Orbital brings more than just hardware to the table; they bring a culture they call “SatDevOps.” This software-centric approach to satellite operations aims to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery with high-quality software. “We’ve flown over 10 missions (and counting!) and our SatDevOps culture enables us to focus on the mission, while still reliably operating satellites,” said Leon Stepan, VP Ground Product at Loft Orbital.

The Future is Bright and Unstoppable

The partnership is set to launch its mission in 2024. “With the right data and the right infrastructure, we’re unstoppable,” Wyvern stated, looking forward to the collaboration.
