LEXINGTON, Ky., September 1, 2023– In a move that signals a new era for automated microgravity solutions, Space Tango announced the appointment of S. Sita Sonty as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective today. Sonty succeeds Twyman Clements, the company’s Co-Founder and now President.
A New Leader for a New Chapter
“Sita Sonty’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Space Tango,” said Clements. “Her extensive experience in the space industry makes her the ideal leader as we aim to secure our position as the global leader in microgravity applications for hardware, software, materials science, biotech, and medicine.”
Sonty, who previously led the space industry practice for the Boston Consulting Group and made history as the Head of Human Spaceflight Sales at SpaceX, will focus on expanding Space Tango’s portfolio of enabling technologies. “I am thrilled to join Space Tango at such a dynamic time in the industry,” Sonty commented. “We are poised to build together and help other space companies grow alongside us.”
Expanding Horizons: Space Tango and DARPA’s B-SURE Program
The announcement coincides with Space Tango’s recent involvement in DARPA’s B-SURE program, which aims to explore the future potential of biomanufacturing in space. The program focuses on the logistic and economic viability of biomanufacturing in low-Earth orbit (LEO), a sector where Space Tango has been a leading industry participant.
“Joining the B-SURE program is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the collaborative efforts between federal and private organizations to enable a sustainable economy in LEO,” said Dr. Alain Berinstain, Space Tango Chief Strategy Officer.
The Road Ahead
With Sonty at the helm and the company’s involvement in groundbreaking programs like B-SURE, Space Tango is well-positioned to lead the next wave of innovation in microgravity solutions. The company aims to leverage its automated capabilities critical to future manufacturing pipelines in low-Earth orbit and beyond.
