- BlueHalo successfully showcased its BADGER system, a pivotal component of the $1.4B SCAR program, to U.S. Space Force officials and federal legislative leaders.
- The demonstration highlighted BADGER’s capabilities in resilient satellite communication and its potential to bolster the nation’s satellite communication infrastructure.
September 28, 2023, ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., BlueHalo recently marked a significant achievement in its collaboration with the U.S. Space Force. The company conducted a milestone demonstration of its BADGER system, a multi-band deployable ground terminal designed to fortify satellite communication.
This event, held one year after the inception of the $1.4B Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource (SCAR) program by the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO), was attended by U.S. Space Force officials and federal legislative leaders.
The demonstration provided insights into the BADGER system’s capabilities, particularly its Multi-band Software Defined Antenna (MSDA) tiles. These tiles played a crucial role in the successful target tracking and signal processing during the event. The positive outcomes from this demonstration not only validate the modular and scalable architecture of BADGER but also underscore the collaborative strides made by BlueHalo and Space RCO in enhancing the nation’s satellite command and control capabilities.
Jonathan Moneymaker, BlueHalo Chief Executive Officer, expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “BlueHalo is transforming defense technology through innovation and know-how and delivering on our Nation’s critical need for a more robust and modernized satellite communication infrastructure to maintain our strategic advantage in space.” He further emphasized the importance of the partnership with the Space Rapid Capabilities Office and the support from the Space Force and Department of Defense.
The SCAR program, with BlueHalo’s proprietary software-defined antenna at its core, aims to simplify mission operations through agile and re-configurable beamforming tiles. BlueHalo’s BADGER system, built upon this core MSDA technology, offers a multi-band and deployable ground communications system adaptable across various mission areas.
Col Greg Hoffman, Senior Material Leader for U.S. Space Force’s Space Rapid Capabilities Office, highlighted the SCAR program’s potential in enhancing communication flexibility for the Space Force, terming it a “great example of responsive Space Force acquisitions enabling future dynamic space operations.”
