Top Space Company Innovators Shine at World Satellite Business Week Awards

  • Companies like ispace, Unseenlabs, Bayanat, and LeoLabs took home top honors, while Pale Blue and Space DOTS received special startup awards.

September 15, 2023, Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama, Sydney- The 26th World Satellite Business Week, organized by Euroconsult, concluded with the presentation of the Excellence in Space-based Information awards. The event brought together more than 1,500 delegates from over 50 countries and 500 space industry organizations. The awards ceremony highlighted exceptional commercial accomplishments and technology innovation in the space sector.

ispace, a Japanese lunar exploration company, secured the Pioneer Space Business Award for their ambitious Lunar mission, Hakuto-R Mission 1. Julien-Alexandre Lamamy, CEO at ispace Europe S.A., stated, “This past year saw significant advances in our business. We launched our first lander reaching lunar orbit and nearly landing the first privately funded, commercial mission on the lunar surface.”

Unseenlabs, a French RF satellite specialist, collected the Newcomer EO Operator / Information Business Award for their impact on maritime situational awareness. Clément Galic, Unseenlabs’ CEO and Co-founder, said, “With our pioneering space-based radio frequency technology, we’ve redefined what’s possible in maritime domain awareness.”

Abu Dhabi-based Bayanat won the Leading EO Business Award for their AI-enabled geospatial data solutions. Hasan Al Hosani, CEO at Bayanat, expressed, “This award further fuels our passion to continue revolutionizing the way we harness the earth’s data for a more sustainable and resilient future for all.”

LeoLabs, a U.S.-based company, received the Sustainable Development & Business Award for their work on monitoring the orbital environment. Dan Ceperley, LeoLabs CEO and Co-founder, noted, “This award affirms that we’re on the right path and motivates us to continue our work building a more sustainable space.”

The Finspace startup pitch competition winner was spacecraft propulsion company Pale Blue. Jun Asakawa, CEO at Pale Blue, said, “We will continue striving to make space more accessible by providing a greener, reliable and sustainable solution for spacecraft mobility.”

The inaugural Space Business Catalyst award went to Space DOTS, an in-space qualification and R&D startup. Bianca Cefalo, CEO and Co-founder at Space DOTS Inc., stated, “This accolade marks the inception of a transformative, enduring partnership, highlighting the pivotal role Space DOTS is set to play in shaping the future of the in-space economy.”
