BOCA RATON, Fla., September 11, 2023 — Terran Orbital (NYSE: LLAP) has officially announced the opening of a new 60,000-square-foot satellite manufacturing facility in Irvine, California. This expansion significantly enhances the company’s existing manufacturing capabilities, bringing the total size of the Irvine complex to approximately 98,000 square feet.
A Leap in Satellite Production
“This new factory addition will significantly improve both the efficiency and capacity of our entire production system,” said Marc Bell, Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Terran Orbital. The new facility is equipped with two advanced Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) lines, a state-of-the-art testing facility featuring a large shaker table and a Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) chamber, a wire harness facility, and new automated module testing facilities.
The Responsive Space Initiative: A New Paradigm
Adding to the excitement, Terran Orbital recently launched its Responsive Space Initiative. Committed to delivering satellite buses within just 30 days and complete satellite systems with integrated payloads within 60 days, the initiative is set to be a game-changer for the industry. “We recently announced our seven new stocking buses, today we are announcing how fast we can build them. These are exciting times not only for Terran Orbital but the industry as a whole,” added Marc Bell.
Serving America’s Military Operations
Terran Orbital is currently manufacturing 42 satellite buses for Lockheed Martin as part of the U.S. Space Development Agency’s Tranche 1 Transport Layer Program. This mesh network in low Earth orbit aims to support America’s military operations, in addition to other satellites and constellations.
