PARIS/HARWELL, UK; Sept. 11, 2023, In a significant development that promises to revolutionize access to space data, Open Cosmos has secured $50 million in Series B funding from a consortium of leading impact investors. This comes on the heels of Accenture’s strategic investment in the space tech company, announced earlier at this year’s World Satellite Business Week in Paris.A New Era in Space Data Democratization
Open Cosmos specializes in designing, building, and operating satellites that collect data to address pressing global challenges. Their recent funding will be used to accelerate the company’s growth, delivery, and international expansion, as well as to broaden its offering to include sophisticated satellites and constellations, along with satellite-based analytics and insight solutions.
“Since launch, we’ve viewed Open Cosmos as more than a space tech company; we are agents of change, harnessing the power of satellite data to drive meaningful impact on Earth,” said Rafel Jorda Siquier, CEO and Founder at Open Cosmos.
Accenture Ventures Joins the Mission
Accenture Ventures, which recently invested in Open Cosmos as part of its Project Spotlight initiative, also participated in this funding round. “Accenture sees a future where every company is able to harness the vast potential of data captured in space,” said Tom Lounibos, Managing Director at Accenture Ventures.
Expanding Capabilities and Impact
Open Cosmos’s technology has a wide range of impactful use cases, from measuring greenhouse gases and monitoring natural disasters to assessing resource management. The company has a 100% success rate on all satellite missions it has launched to date and was recently selected by the National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (CONIDA) to develop a data platform aimed at transforming geospatial data distribution in Peru.
The funding will enable Open Cosmos to expand its team, which is currently distributed across the UK, Spain, and Portugal, and is looking to expand into Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific in due course.
