Data Analytics Meets Space Defense: SAS and MAG Aerospace Secure Space Force Contract

Published:

  • SAS and MAG Aerospace have been awarded a part of the U.S. Space Force’s $900 million IDIQ contract to bring AI and analytics expertise to Space Systems Command.
  • The partnership aims to process and analyze massive amounts of data from Space Force’s network of radars and sensors, enhancing real-time intelligence and decision-making.

Cary, N.C., September 7, 2023 – In a significant move that marks the confluence of data analytics and space defense, global analytics leader SAS has joined hands with MAG Aerospace. The partnership aims to capitalize on the recently awarded $900 million Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command.

Bridging Data and Defense

The collaboration brings together SAS’s nearly five decades of experience in AI and analytics with MAG Aerospace’s expertise in Full-Spectrum Joint Domain Command and Control Services. The primary objective is to enable the Space Force to sift through the enormous amounts of data generated by its extensive network of tracking radars and sensors.

Last year alone, the Space Command tracked over 47,000 objects in space. The sheer volume of data underscores the critical need for advanced analytics to convert this information into actionable, real-time intelligence.

A Legacy of Innovation

“SAS has been an industry leader in applying AI and analytics to the most complex mission challenges for nearly 50 years,” said Caroline Baldwin, Director for SAS Federal. “We believe our alliance with MAG Aerospace is uniquely positioned to deliver on Space Systems Command’s IDIQ task order opportunities.”

It’s worth noting that SAS’s legacy in aerospace dates back to the Space Race. Jim Goodnight, Co-Founder and CEO of SAS, was a programmer on the Apollo Project before co-founding SAS. The company has been a software industry leader, providing AI and analytics solutions to the federal government for nearly half a century.

MAG Aerospace: A Trusted Partner

MAG Aerospace, with its team of over 1,200 C5ISR professionals operating across six continents, brings a wealth of operational excellence to the table. The company has successfully hosted the SAS® Viya® platform in a secure cloud environment, processing Internet of Things (IoT) data and performing advanced analytics at the tactical edge.

The Future of Space Analytics

The IDIQ contract supports Space Command and Control (C2), a critical component for mission success in an increasingly contested space environment. SAS’s deep analytical capabilities, powered by their Viya platform, will enable commanders to make enhanced and accelerated decisions, promoting full network and data integration.
