- The Space Development Agency (SDA) has issued a solicitation for the prototyping of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) Tranche 2 (T2) Tracking Layer.
- The T2 Tracking Layer aims to provide global, persistent indications, detection, warning, tracking, and identification of conventional and advanced missile threats, including hypersonic missile systems.
New York, USA, September 6, 2023 – The Space Development Agency (SDA) has officially opened the floor for proposals aimed at advancing the United States’ missile defense capabilities. The agency is soliciting prototypes for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) Tranche 2 (T2) Tracking Layer, a project designed to enhance the nation’s ability to detect and track both conventional and advanced missile threats on a global scale.
A Leap in Missile Defense Capabilities
The T2 Tracking Layer is not just another project; it’s a significant leap in missile defense capabilities. It aims to incorporate Fire Control quality sensors in a constellation of space vehicles (SVs) equipped with infrared (IR) sensors. The project calls for the procurement and deployment of at least 54 SVs in six orbital planes, with the possibility of additional prototyping to fine-tune requirements and constellation design. When fully deployed, the Tracking Layer could include more than 100 SVs in low Earth orbit (LEO) across multiple planes.
The Nitty-Gritty Details
Interested organizations should note that the deadline for proposal submissions is October 5, 2023, at 5:00 PM Eastern. Proposals received after this deadline will not be evaluated. To access classified content related to the solicitation, organizations must include a JWICS email address in their request and should possess a facility clearance of at least Secret.
A Comprehensive Approach
“The T2 Tracking Layer prototyping effort will accelerate the capability to provide global, persistent indications, detection, warning, tracking, and identification of conventional and advanced missile threats, including hypersonic missile systems,” the SDA stated in the solicitation. The agency aims to respond to all requests within one business day of receipt, emphasizing the urgency and importance of this initiative.
